Keryflex Treatment Q & A

What is KeryFlex?

KeryFlex is a method of nail restoration for damaged or deformed nails. If you’ve lost a significant portion of your natural nail or need nail removal, Dr. Wright can create a durable, natural-looking composite resin replacement with KeryFlex.

Dr. Wright can perform KeryFlex restoration even if you have as little as 15% of your natural nail left. Your KeryFlex nail stays in place as your own natural nail grows back beneath it.

Once your natural nail grows back, Dr. Wright can remove the KeryFlex nail in the office if you wish.

Is KeryFlex right for me?

KeryFlex can be an excellent restoration option if you have any of the following nail problems:

  • Toenail fungus

  • Trauma-related nail warping

  • Spoon-shaped nails

  • Weak, flaky, or splitting nails

  • Nail ridges

  • Black, brown, or yellow nail discoloration

If you hate the appearance of your nails and feel too embarrassed to show your feet, KeryFlex could be ideal.

A few groups of people can’t get KeryFlex, including those with peripheral vascular disease, peripheral neuropathy, ingrown toenails, or pigmented nail lesions. If you’re pregnant or nursing, it’s best to delay treatment.

How does the KeryFlex treatment work?

Dr. Wright starts by trimming and filing the damaged nail to shape it properly. Then, he applies the KeryFlex bonding agent, which creates ideal adhesion for the nail resin.

Dr. Wright applies the nail resin to build up the new nail. He hardens the new nail using a UV light.

He shapes and buffs the new nail, and then applies a sealant to make the nail non-porous and non-permeable. Dr. Wright completes the KeryFlex treatment with another short session under the UV light.

Usually, the process takes around 15-30 minutes for one nail. KeryFlex nail restoration is painless and requires no anesthesia.

How do I take care of a KeryFlex nail restoration?

Dr. Wright gives you specific aftercare guidelines when he performs your nail restoration. In general, you can treat the KeryFlex nail much like a natural one.

This includes using nail polish and nail polish remover. You can also file the KeryFlex nail lightly to maintain the desired nail length, but shouldn’t clip or cut your nail.

You’ll return to Quantum Foot and Ankle Group, PC once every 6-8 weeks to restore the nail and keep it looking beautiful and healthy.
